Behavioral Consistencies in Costa Rican fruit bats
During Spring 2017, I had the opportunity to work with captive fruit bats in the The Bat Jungle while studying Tropical Ecology and Conservation in Costa Rica. I developed a project exploring behavioral consistencies in Toltec fruit-eating bats under the advisement of Dr. Johel Chaves. We measured personality traits of activity and exploration in captive bats using a modified hole board and open field test and found that activity traits, but not exploration traits, were repeatable using our testing method. We are currently writing up our results and plan to submit our findings to Acta Chiropterologica.
